According to the creator of the character, Eduard Uspensky (1965), Cheburashka is a funny little creature, unknown to science, who lives in a tropical forest. “Gena and his friends” was written by Eduard Uspensky in 1966 and was later made into a cartoon. Since then, Cheburashka and Gena are the favorite characters of people of different generations. In the mid ’70’s, the word of Cheburashka traveled the world and he became an international hero. From 1969 to 1984 four cartoon episodes appeared - “Cheburashka,” “Gena the Croc,” “Shapoklyak” and “Cheburashka Goes to School.” Once the first episode hit the screen, Cheburashka gained popularity across the Soviet Union.
